I can see it wants to be the next Martian I suppose. But competence porn only works when the adversary is as competent. Mostly meh. I would recommend anything by Greg Egan if you want some transhuman science fiction.
Fforde is a fun writer. I am surprised his books are not more popular. Maybe it’s their meta-fiction aspect but I absolutely love his worlds and playful writing.
